Join us for a week of learning, sharing and fun as we hold our 2nd Annual IIJA Gemology Week. Here are the specifics below:

Tuition: $750.00 for the following:

  • IIJA Students and Graduates
  • National Association of Jewelry Appraisers members
  • Diamond Council of America members and students

Tuition for Non-Members of the above organizations: $900.00


Includes the following:

  • Day 1: Gemology Tools and Techniques
  • Day 2: Created and Treated Gem Identification
  • Day 3: Diamond Grading and Evaluation
  • Days 4-5: Colored Gemstone Identification
  • All gemological tools provided. Nothing needed to bring with you.
  • Certificate of Completion when the class is completed.
  • IIJA Students can complete your RGA and RG Practicals Package and/or your 20 Gemstone Final Exam during this week.

Registration Information

Please read the following carefully regarding Registration:

The IIJA Gemology Week is open to anyone interested in learning about gemstones. Prior experience, training or knowledge is not required. However, all five (5) days must be attended. No exceptions. Anyone missing the first day of Gemology Tools and Techniques will be considered a withdrawal.

Class size is limited and registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registration is by a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 until April 30. After April 30 the deposit will be $200.00. 

Tuition balance must be received by July 1. Tuition not received by due date will void the registration and the deposit will be forfeited.

Cancellations will be credited on the following schedule:

  • On or before August 15: 50%
  • After August 15: 0% 

In the event the Gemology Week is cancelled for any reason, we will refund all deposits and monies paid to date.

Here is the schedule of classes for the IIJA Gemology Week


Sept. 17: Gemology Tools and Techniques

We will spend a day going step-by-step through the various tools that are important to the successful gemologist and jewelry appraiser. We will start by working with the top gemological microscope in the world: Meiji Techno. Then move throughout the list of gemological tools to help you be more accurate and more time efficient with your gemological testing.

Experience and prior training not required. This class day is for experienced to novice gemologists. By the end of the day we will not have any novices in the room!

Sept. 18: Created and Treated Gemstones

Today we take a journey through the magical world of Chatham Created Gems, including created diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires and so much more. Chatham Created Gems has donated a exceptional array of all types of created and treated gemstones, including those from many different sources, to make this hands-on class possible. No where else will you find the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the identification and grading of a full spectrum of created and treated gemstones.

Experience is not required here as we will guide you through the amazing world of created and treated gemstones, and guarantee you will leave feeling confident about your ability to identify created and treated gemstones.

Sept. 19: Diamond Grading

We will spend a full day grading as many diamonds to help you gain important experience and knowledge. We have lab graded diamonds, lab created diamonds, fancy shaped diamonds, Yehuda Diamonds,  HPHT treated diamonds, irradiated diamonds…well just about any kind of diamond you will find on the market…you will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the identification and grading. 

Class is designed for professionals and novice. All will find an educational and challenging day of diamond grading.

Sept 20 - 21: Colored Gemstone Identification

We will over 500 colored gemstones from every segment of the gemstone world for you to get important experience in  identification procedures. You will be able to work at your own pace, work through as many gemstones as you wish, and get important hands-on training to be more accurate and efficient in your gem identification methods.

This class has been designed for professionals and novice alike. From beginners to experienced gemologists, this class will challenge you and make you more confident in your gem identification abilities.
